Can Devi Devta hear our inner voice

    5 months ago 106

According to Jain Dharma, we should understand this in a clear way:

    1. Who are Devi–Devta in Jainism?

    - They are also jiv (souls), just like us, but born in higher heavenly states due to their good karmas. - They are not creators of the universe and not givers of moksha. Our moksha depends only on our own karma and effort.

    1. Can they “hear” our inner voice?

    - Jain philosophy mainly talks about how karma responds to our inner thoughts (bhav), not about devtas constantly listening inside our mind. - Devas can have very high knowledge and powers compared to humans, but: - They are still bound by karma. - They are not all‑knowing like Kevali Bhagwan. - So, from Jain view we should not live with the idea “Devi–Devta are sitting and monitoring every thought inside me and granting boons.” - What truly “responds” to your inner voice is your own karma: pure thoughts create punya, impure create paap.

    1. Then why do we pray to Devi–Devta in some Jain traditions?

    - Many stutis like Kshetra Devta Stuti, Bhavana Devta Stuti etc. are respectful prayers, mainly to ask for: - protection of the sangh, - support for sadhu–sadhvi and dharmic activities, - removal of obstacles in following dharma. ( jainknowledge.com) - Even there, the main goal is dharma and inner purity, not worldly miracles.

    1. What should be our right understanding?

    - You may pray with bhakti like this: - “If any Devi–Dev exist around me, may they support my dharma, help me remove anger, pride, deceit, greed.” - But always remember: - Real listener is your own Atma – when you become aware, you change. - Real result‑giver is your own karma – formed by your thoughts, words, and actions. - Real ideal is Arihant–Siddha – completely beyond all attachment and dependence on any dev.

So, in Jainism we don’t emphasize “Devi–Devta hearing my inner voice”; we emphasize purifying that inner voice through right faith, right knowledge and right conduct.
