What are the restrictions to be taken care of in pratham pratima?

    one year ago 164

In Jainism, the "Pratimā" system outlines the gradual stages of spiritual discipline for a lay follower (Śrāvaka). The Pratham Pratima (First Pratima) is called "Darshan Pratima" or the stage of right faith.

Restrictions and Observances in Pratham Pratima:

    1. Right Faith (Samyak Darshan):

The primary requirement is to develop unshakeable right faith in Jain principles, Tirthankaras, scriptures, and teachers.

    1. Renunciation of False Beliefs:

One must give up association with false beliefs and wrong faiths (mithyātva). This includes not supporting or following teachings that contradict Jain doctrine.

    1. Abstaining from Criticism:

The practitioner refrains from criticizing the true Jain path, Tirthankaras, or Jain scriptures.

    1. Respect for Jain Teachings:

One should show respect towards Jain saints, scriptures, and philosophical principles.

    1. No Major Lifestyle Changes Yet:

At this stage, there are no strict restrictions on food, profession, or other social activities. The focus is primarily on correcting one’s beliefs and attitude.

    1. Preparation for Higher Pratimas:

The practitioner starts preparing for more rigorous restraints to be followed in subsequent pratimas.

In summary: The main restriction in Pratham Pratima is related to one’s beliefs: renounce false faith, adopt right faith, and respect Jain philosophy and its representatives. It does not impose strict rules on external conduct yet, but lays the foundational attitude for further spiritual progress.
