Parents

• Father: Raja Siddharth (also called Siddharth Raja)
• Mother: Rani Trishala (also called Priyakarini, Videhadatta, Trishala Devi)

Mother & garbha‑parivartan detail

• According to Jain scriptures, the embryo first entered the womb of Devānandā (a Brahmin lady).
• Then the devas transferred it to Queen Trishala’s womb.
• So, Devānandā is respected as the biological mother, and Trishalā as the mother who gave birth and raised Mahavir.

Brothers and sisters

• Elder brother: Nandivardhan
• Sister: Sudarshana

Wife and daughter (difference of traditions)

1. Shvetāmbara tradition

- Wife: Yashodā - Daughter: Priyadarshanā - Also called Anojja / Anojjā in some texts. - She was married to Jamāli (Jamali).

1. Digambara tradition

- Mahavir is said to have remained brahmachārī (celibate) even during household life. - Therefore, in this view: no wife and no daughter.

Maternal family (Vaishali side)

• King Chetak of Vaishali is closely related to Mahavir’s mother.

- Shvetāmbara view: Chetak is Trishalā’s brother (Mahavir’s maternal uncle). - Digambara view: Chetak is Trishalā’s father (Mahavir’s maternal grandfather).

This much is generally accepted in Jain tradition, with the differences between Shvetāmbara and Digambara clearly noted.
