on which day one can visit temple post someones death in family

    5 months ago 306

In Jain dharma, there is no scriptural rule of “sutak / ashauch” like in some Hindu traditions.

    General Jain view:

    • After a death in the family, you may go to the derasar (temple) and do puja even the same day,
    • Condition: you first take a full bath, wear clean clothes, and keep your mind as peaceful and respectful as possible.
    • There is no concept of being “ritually impure” for 10, 12, 13 days or 1 year in core Jain teachings.

Why do some families avoid temple for a few days?

    • This is usually family or regional custom, not a strict Jain dharma rule.
    • Many families keep 10–13 days only as a mourning period, to stay simple, avoid celebrations, and focus on remembering the soul and doing shanti-paath.

    Practical guidance:

    • According to Jain principles, you can visit the temple as soon as you have bathed and are clean.
    • If your elders follow a certain number of days (e.g., 13 days), you may choose to respect family tradition to avoid conflict, but understand that this is custom, not compulsory by Jain shastra.
