Samayik is what
Samayik means staying in a state of equanimity (samata-bhav) for a fixed time, leaving aside all worldly work and trying to remain only in atma-bhav (soul‑consciousness).
In Jain dharma:
- Samayik is the first of the 6 Avashyak (daily essential duties).
- For that period (traditionally 48 minutes), a person tries to:
- Both Shravak (householder) and sadhu–sadhvi (monks, nuns) are expected to do Samayik (for monks it is much more frequent and strict).
In simple words: Samayik = to sit quietly, leave all worldly roles, and try to remain balanced, non‑hurtful, and aware of the pure soul for some time.
