Which audhadhi are used to clean sliver idol in jain temple

    5 months ago 80

In Jain Dharma there is no fixed scriptural list of “aushadhi” specially for cleaning silver idols. What is used is decided locally by the temple‑sangh, keeping two main rules in mind:

    1. Ahimsa & shuddhi (non‑violence and purity)

    - No animal‑based products. - No very strong or burning chemicals (which can damage pratima and are considered ashuddha).

    1. Mild, natural, non‑corrosive cleaning

For silver (rajat) idols, most Jain derasars use some form of: - Gunguna pani (lukewarm water) - Halka sa sabun / liquid soap approved by the sangh (very mild, without strong fragrance, and used in very small quantity) - Or a special “rajat‑aushadhi” / “chaandi aushadhi” powder prepared or approved by that derasar, often based on: - Nimbu / citric type ingredients (mild form) - Thodi khadi / baking‑soda type substance in small quantity - Some mild mineral / herbal powder

The exact recipe is usually not public and differs from temple to temple. It is prepared so that: - Silver does not get peeled or pitted. - No sharp acid or industrial chemical is used.

    ---

    Practical guidance

    • There is no one universal Jain aushadhi name for silver; it is not like “ashta‑dravya puja” where dravya are fixed.
    • You should follow whatever aushadhi your own derasar or gurudev has approved.
    • If you are helping in a derasar and are unsure:
    - Ask the pujari / prakshal team: “Yahaan chaandi ki pratima saaf karne ke liye kaunsi aushadhi humko use karni chahiye? Kya koi special powder ya solution mandir dwara tayyar hota hai?” - Do not start using market chemical silver‑polish or strong acid on your own.

    ---

Summary: For cleaning a silver Jain idol, traditionally only mild, non‑violent, non‑corrosive aushadhi is used – usually a temple‑approved “silver aushadhi” powder or a very mild solution (water + a little gentle cleansing agent). There is no single standard Jain-scriptural aushadhi name for this; always follow your own derasar’s approved aushadhi and method.
