what are the triratnas of jainism
In Jainism, the Triratna (also called Ratnatraya or Three Jewels) are:
- Samyak Darshan – Right Faith (Right Vision)
- Having true belief in the teachings of the Tirthankaras. - Faith in soul (jiva), karma, rebirth, and the possibility of liberation (moksha). - Free from doubts and wrong beliefs.
- Samyak Jnana – Right Knowledge
- Correct understanding of reality as explained in Jain scriptures. - Knowing the tattvas (fundamental principles), the nature of soul and karma. - Knowledge without confusion, doubt, or illusion.
- Samyak Charitra – Right Conduct
- Living according to Jain ethics in thought, speech, and action. - Practicing ahimsa (non‑violence), satya (truth), asteya (non‑stealing), brahmacharya, and aparigraha (non‑attachment). - Putting right faith and right knowledge into daily life.
All Jain traditions (Digambar and Shwetambar) accept these same three as the core path to liberation: Right Faith → Right Knowledge → Right Conduct → Moksha.
