Chaitri poonam full process
Here is a simple, practical way to observe Chaitri Poonam (Chaitra Purnima) as per Jain dharma.
---
1. Understand the day (short)
- It is the full moon of Chaitra month (March–April).
- Very important for:
- Any tap, dan, swadhyay, jaap done on this day is believed to give very high punya. ( jainknowledge.com)
---
2. Preparation – Previous Night
- Decide your tapa (according to your health and capacity):
- Upvas (full fast – only boiled water in fixed time). - Or Ekasanu / Beasanu with complete veg, non-violent food.
- Do pachchakkhan:
- For: no night-eating, type of fast, use of mobile/TV, extra care in vachan and man.
- Sleep with Navkar jaap or bhav of Siddhachal / Shatrunjay.
---
3. Morning Vidhi
- Jagruti & Shauch
- Wake early, bath, wear clean simple clothes (preferably white). - Do Navkar Mantra and kayotsarg at home.
- Samayik (if possible 48 minutes)
- Sit on asan, take samayik pachchakkhan, remain in samayik-bhav – no worldly talk, only dharma.
- Derasar Darshan
- Go to Jain mandir (if possible): - Navkar, chaitya-vandan, darshan of all Tirthankars. - Do special bhav-pranam to Shri Shantinath Bhagwan. - Do Bhav Yatra of Siddhachal / Shatrunjay (mentally visit all tonks and siddha-bhoomi).
- Puja / Snatra
- If mandir has Chaitri Poonam / Shatrunjay / Siddhachal puja – join with shraddha. - Otherwise, even a simple: - Navkarvali, - Logassa, - a few Swastik / Khamasna recitations done with bhakti is enough.
---
4. Daytime – Dharmic Upyog
According to your time:
- Swadhyay (Study/Listening)
- Mahima and history of: - Shatrunjay – Siddhachal, - Shantinath Bhagwan’s Keval-jnan, - Stories connected to Chaitri Poonam. - Listen to pravachan or read small booklet if available.
- Jaap & Bhavna
- Navkar Mantra. - Mantras / stavans like: - “Shri Shatrunjay Giriraj Namah” - “Shri Siddhachal Giriraj Namah” - Do bhavna of: - Samsar is full of dukkh, - Only right faith–knowledge–conduct leads to moksha, - Infinite siddhas on Siddhachal are our true ideal.
- Tap & Vrat
- Properly follow decided upvas / ekasanu / beasanu. - Avoid: - Root vegetables, - Green leafy (if your niyam), - Honey, alcohol, eggs, etc. - Control raag–dvesh, krodh–maan–maya–lobh as much as you can.
- Daan / Seva

---
5. Evening / Night Vidhi
- Pratikraman
- Do daily pratikraman with full awareness. - On such special day, be extra careful in: - Alochana–pratikraman (open-hearted repentance), - Pratyakhyan (firm decision to avoid faults again).
- Extra Samayik or Jaap (if possible)
- One more Samayik or at least: - 15–20 min Navkar jaap, - Some time in kayotsarg and atma-chintan.
- Bhavna & Forgiveness
- Recite stavans / bhavnas on: - Shatrunjay / Siddhachal, - Shantinath Bhagwan, - Siddha Bhagwan. - From heart say “Micchami Dukkadam” to family & friends, forgive all.
- Paarna (next day of upvas)
- Do boiled water paan at proper time. - Then light, simple food, no taste-hunting, finish with Navkar.
---
6. If You Are Going for Actual Yatra
If you are going to Shatrunjay (Palitana) / another tirth on Chaitri Poonam:
- Before Yatra
- Take pachchakkhan (e.g. only one climb, no photography, no gossip). - Avoid leather belt, purse, etc.
- During Climb
- Climb with maun or limited vachan. - Keep Navkar, “Shri Shatrunjay Giriraj Namah” on lips. - As much as possible, avoid stepping on insects, walk carefully.
- On the Top
- Do main temple darshan with vinay. - Silent atma-chintan: “Infinite souls became Siddha from such tirth; I also want only moksha.”
- After Return
- Don’t convert it into picnic. - Keep day in shant, dharmic mood till night.
---
