Can we do climb palitana jatra when ayambil oli is going on?
Yes, you can do Palitana (Shatrunjay) yatra while Ayambil Oli is going on – there is no Jain shastric niyam that forbids it.
But keep these points in mind:
- Ayambil is tapa of ras-tyag (controlling taste), not of walking
- Main rules: - Eat only once a day - Simple ayambil food (no milk, curd, ghee, oil, sugar/jaggery, fried items, etc.) - Boiled water only, within fixed time - Walking / climbing is allowed as long as you can maintain these rules properly.
- Health & shakti are very important
- Palitana climb is long and tiring. - If you are weak, have medical issues (heart, knees, sugar, BP, etc.), or feel dizzy on Ayambil, then it is better to avoid such a heavy yatra those days. - In Jain dharma, “saiyam ke saath tapa” is important – not hurting the body to the point that you must break vows or take medicines unnecessarily.
- Bhav and practicality both matter
- If you can: - Keep full Ayambil niyam properly, - Do climb calmly, with maun / dhyan / stuti, - No anger, irritation, or carelessness in acharan, then doing yatra during Ayambil can become extra punya + tapa. - But if because of yatra you: - Have to break Ayambil rules, or - Become very disturbed, angry, or careless, then spiritually it is not good.
- Take guidance from your Guru / Pravachanakar / Panjrapol or Mandir niyams
- Some local sanghs or gurus may suggest: - “If you are doing full 9-day Ayambil Oli for the first time, avoid very hard yatras.” - Or they may encourage it if your health is fine. - So, best is to follow aagya of the guru you normally follow.
- Both Digambar and Shwetambar
- Both consider: - Ayambil = tapas for control of taste - Palitana / Shatrunjay yatra = mahā-punya-kārak - There is no known strict prohibition in either tradition against combining the two; it is mainly about prudence and capacity.
If your body is fit, mind is steady, and niyam of Ayambil remains intact, you may certainly do Palitana jatra during Ayambil Oli.
