How to learn more about jainism

    5 months ago 93

Here are some simple, practical ways to learn more about Jainism:

    1. Start with the basics of belief (Tattva)

    - Learn about: - 9 Tattvas (Jiva, Ajiva, Punya, Paap, Asrava, Bandh, Samvar, Nirjara, Moksha) - 3 Jewels (Samyak Darshan, Samyak Gyaan, Samyak Charitra) - These give you the “map” of Jain philosophy. - You can gradually read short articles on these topics instead of big books.

    1. Read life stories of Tirthankaras

    - Especially Bhagwan Mahavir, Parshvanath, and Rishabhdev. - Stories help you understand principles like Ahimsa, Aparigraha (non‑possessiveness), and forgiveness in a very easy way.

    1. Learn a few daily sutras with meaning

    - Start with: - Navkar Mantra - Logassa Sutra - Khamasamano / Micchami Dukkadam - First learn correct pronunciation, then slowly learn their meanings. - This builds both devotion (bhakti) and understanding (gyaan).

    1. Listen to pravachans and Jain bhakti

    - Short pravachans (discourses) on: - Karma theory - Ahimsa in daily life - Anuvratas (small vows for householders) - Jain stavans and stutis also create interest and connection with Dharma.

    1. Observe simple practices in daily life

    - Try to practice: - Eating with more awareness (no violence, no waste) - Reducing anger and harsh speech - Reducing unnecessary possessions and desires - When you practice even a little, Jainism becomes very real and clear.

    1. Ask questions and clear doubts

    - Whenever you don’t understand something (ritual, rule, or concept), note it down. - Then ask a knowledgeable Jain (Sadhu/Sadhvi, Upadhyay, or experienced Shravak/Shravika), or use Jain-focused platforms to get answers based only on Jain scriptures.

    1. Use JainKnowledge/JainGPT as a guide

    - You can explore many topics on Jain Knowledge and ask detailed questions through JainGPT here You can read more here

    1. Go step by step (don’t rush)

    - Start with: 1. Stories and basic principles 2. Then simple sutras and their meanings 3. Then deeper topics like Karma theory, Anekantvaad, Syadvad, etc. - Even 10–15 minutes daily is enough if you are regular.

If you tell me your age and whether you prefer Hindi/English, I can suggest a very simple step‑by‑step study path (like “Week 1, Week 2…” style) for you.
