    Navpad oli colours

    5 months ago 88

Here are the commonly used colours for Navpad (Siddhachakra / Navpad Oli worship). Note: There are small differences in tradition (especially for Upādhyay Pad), so I’ll mention both where needed.

    1. Arihant Pad – White

Symbol of complete purity and shuddha leshyā.

    1. Siddha Pad – Red

Clearly mentioned as red in JainKnowledge Navpad series (Siddha Pad)

    1. Āchārya Pad – Golden Yellow

Given as golden–yellow in JainKnowledge Navpad series (Acharya Pad)

    1. Upādhyay Pad

    - In many Śvetāmbara traditions: Green - Some detailed Jain texts (including summaries referred on JainKnowledge) explain Blue as the symbolic colour for Upādhyay. So you may see either Green or Blue depending on your local tradition.

    1. Sādhu / Sādhvī Pad – Black

Symbol of total renunciation, absence of worldly “colouring”.

    1. Samyak Darshan (Right Faith) – White
    2. Samyak Jnān (Right Knowledge) – White
    3. Samyak Chāritra (Right Conduct) – White
    4. Samyak Tap (Right Austerity) – White

The last four pads are usually shown in white, to show complete internal purity of faith, knowledge, conduct and penance.

If you are following a particular upāsanā book or local guru, it is best to keep the same colour scheme they use for your pūjā/yantra, especially for Upādhyay Pad.
