How to make jain minority card

    5 months ago 168

In India, a “Jain minority card/certificate” is basically a government Minority / Religion certificate showing your religion as Jain. The exact process is slightly different in every state, but the pattern is same everywhere.

    1. First understand what you need

For an ordinary person, you usually need an individual Jain minority (religion) certificate for:
    • School/college admission forms
    • Minority scholarships / schemes
    • Some counselling or quota forms

This is issued by your state government (Tehsildar / SDM / e‑district portal), not by the Jain temple.

    ---

    2. Where to apply

    Normally one of these:
    • Online citizen portal of your state
    - Search on Google: `" minority certificate apply online"` - Example names: e‑district, e‑sevā, service plus, etc.
    • Offline at local office
    - Tehsil / Taluka office - SDM (Sub‑Divisional Magistrate) / Mamlatdar office - Ask for the form for “Minority certificate – Religion: Jain”.

    ---

    3. Documents usually required

(Exact list varies by state, but generally:)
    1. ID proof – Aadhaar, voter ID, PAN, etc.
    2. Address proof – Aadhaar, ration card, electricity bill, etc.
    3. Passport size photo
    4. Proof that you are Jain (one or more of these):

    - School leaving certificate / marksheet showing “Religion: Jain” - Birth certificate with religion Jain - Any old government document where religion is written as Jain - Certificate/letter from your local Jain Sangh / Derasar on letterhead, with stamp & signature, stating you (or your family) are Jain

    1. Affidavit (sometimes)

    - Simple affidavit on stamp paper declaring: “I am follower of Jain religion,” etc., if your portal/office asks.

    ---

    4. Step‑by‑step process

    1. Collect proofs

    - Try to get at least one document where your religion is already written as Jain. - If you don’t have any, go to your local Jain Sangh/temple and request a certificate on their letterhead confirming you are Jain.

    1. Fill the application

    - Online: - Register on your state portal. - Choose service: Minority certificate / Religion certificate. - Fill personal details; choose Religion = Jain. - Upload scanned documents and photo. - Offline: - Take the form from Tehsil/SDM office. - Fill all details clearly and attach photocopies of documents + photos.

    1. Submit & pay fee (if any)

    - Many states charge either nothing or a small fee (₹0–₹50). - Keep your acknowledgement / application number safely.

    1. Verification

    - Office may verify with: - your school records, - or do local enquiry, - or confirm with your Jain Sangh letter.

    1. Get your certificate/card

    - Online: download the digitally signed PDF. - Offline: collect the signed paper certificate from the office.

You can then use this certificate as your Jain minority proof wherever needed.

    ---

    5. Dharmic point of view

    • In Jain Dharma, being Jain is mainly about shraddhā (faith) and practice (ahimsa, anuvrat, samayik, pratikraman, etc.).
    • The minority card is only an administrative thing for government records and schemes.
    • It does not make anyone more or less Jain spiritually.
    • There is no difference in the process for Digambar or Shwetambar Jains – both are equally recognized as Jain for minority status.
