    Uvasaggaharam Stotra 14 gāthā

    5 months ago 88

Uvasaggaharam Stotra is not traditionally a 14‑gāthā stotra.

In Jain tradition, the main recensions are:

    1. 7‑gāthā form (older / fuller form)
    2. 5‑gāthā form (most commonly recited today, especially in Śvetāmbara practice)

Because of this, when someone says “Uvasaggaharam Stotra 14 gāthā”, usually one of these is true:

    • They are mistakenly mixing it up with another stotra (for example, Bhaktāmar, which has many more gāthās like 14, 48, etc.),
    • Or they are referring to a local or expanded compilation, not a standard, widely accepted Jain scripture.

Standard Uvasaggaharam text (5‑gāthā Śvetāmbara form)

In simple Prakrit (Devanāgarī), the most common 5‑gāthā version is:

    Essence in very simple words

    • Gāthā 1: Bowing to Bhagwān Pārśvanāth, destroyer of obstacles and poisons of karma, abode of auspiciousness.
    • Gāthā 2: Whoever remembers this powerful mantra with faith is protected from planets, disease, miseries, and harsh old age.
    • Gāthā 3: Even from far away, just bowing to you gives great fruit; human and non‑human beings are saved from deep sufferings.
    • Gāthā 4: By attaining true faith in you, souls gain unobstructed progress like wish‑fulfilling jewels and reach the immortal, eternal state.
    • Gāthā 5: Thus I praise you with a heart full of devotion; O Lord Pārśva, O Jina‑moon, please grant right knowledge in every birth.

    About “14th gāthā”

    • Classical Jain references speak of 7 original gāthās, one of which is said (in some traditions) to have been dropped due to fear of misuse, so many communities now regularly recite 5 gāthās.
    • There is no widely accepted, canonical “14‑gāthā” version of Uvasaggaharam in standard Śvetāmbara or Digambara practice.
    • If you have a local book listing 14, it is likely a combined or expanded version, not the core scriptural form.
