If any of the kashayas, krodh, maan, maya, lobh exceed a period of one year, does it mean a it now has anantanubandhi kashay?
No. The duration (even more than one year) does not by itself make a krodh, mān, māyā or lobh into anantānubandhi kaṣāya.
In Jain philosophy, anantānubandhi is defined mainly by intensity and effect, not by time:
- What is anantānubandhi kaṣāya?
- Other three grades of the same four kaṣāyas:
So:
- If someone keeps a mild anger or greed feeling for more than one year, it can still be only saṃjvalana or pratyākhyāna level.
- It becomes anantānubandhi only when:
Both Digambar and Śvetāmbara agree on these four intensities of each kaṣāya; they differ slightly in technical details and stage‑descriptions, but none say “if it lasts 1 year, it automatically becomes anantānubandhi.”
In practice, any long‑lasting kaṣāya (even if not fully anantānubandhi) is still very dangerous, so Jain āchāryas strongly advise continuous efforts: pratikramaṇ, kṣamā (forgiveness), vinay (humility), svādhyāy and dhyān to weaken it as early as possible.
