What if Pigeon make their nest at our home and even lay eggs so what is the solution how to remove it ?
In Jain dharma, the main principle is ahimsā – not hurting any living being, as far as possible. So in this situation we try to:
- Avoid harm to the birds and eggs
- Do not throw the nest, eggs, or babies away. - If eggs are already there, the safest Jain way is: - Let the parents hatch the eggs. - Wait until the babies grow and fly away. - After that, remove the empty nest and clean the place.
- Make the place unattractive for future nesting (non‑violent way)
After the birds have gone: - Clean the area well. - Close / cover the space with net, wire mesh, cardboard, or some barrier so they cannot build there again. - You can hang light things that move (cloth strips, shiny ribbon, etc.) near that place so birds don’t feel safe to build a nest there. - Keep the area busy (opening/closing that window, door, balcony often) so they don’t like it.
- If there are only starting materials (no eggs yet)
- When they just start bringing a few twigs and no egg is laid yet, you can: - Gently remove that material and clean the spot. - Do this repeatedly for a few days; they will usually stop using that place. - Do it softly, without hurting the birds.
- What to avoid (from Jain view)
- Don’t break eggs on purpose. - Don’t hit or injure the birds. - Don’t use sticky / harmful chemicals or cruel devices.
- Inner attitude (bhāv)
- Keep a feeling of karuṇā (compassion): “These souls are also trying to live.” - At the same time, as a householder you can protect your health and cleanliness in a gentle way. - If any harm happens unknowingly, remember and do pratikraman (asking forgiveness in your mind).
