In Khandelwal Jain society, there is actually no concept of “top” or “higher” gotra from the Jain‑dharma point of view.

• All gotras are spiritually equal.

In Jainism, jiva (soul) is not high or low because of caste, surname or gotra.

• Khandelwal Jains (especially Digambar Khandelwal / Sarawagi) are traditionally divided into about 84 gotras (in some traditions 72½ / 84), but:

- These are just family/clan divisions for identity and marriage rules. - They do not indicate more punya, higher status, or better spiritual capacity.

Socially, some gotras may be larger in number or more commonly heard in a particular city (like Jaipur, Kota, Indore, etc.), so people sometimes call them “bade gotra” or “zyada chalne wale gotra”, but this is only social usage, not Jain‑dharma.
