If someone asks me offer jal to shiva as per my patrika what can be the jain ritual for this
In Jain dharma, we do not worship Shiva or do rituals like “jal chadhana on Shivling.” That belongs to another religion’s system of dev‑pooja.
But if your patrika / astrologer has told you “offer jal to Shiva” and you want to follow a pure Jain way, you can change the upay (remedy) into a Jain ritual with the same spirit (offering water with devotion), but directed only to Arihant–Siddha.
You can do something like this instead:
---
1. Jal Abhishek to Jina idol (or photo)
If you have a derasar or home mandir:
- Take a clean lota / kalash of water.
- Stand in front of Tirthankar Bhagwan (idol or clean photo).
- Recite Navkar Mantra with full concentration (at least 9 times).
- Do jal abhishek (slowly pour water) on the Jina idol (or symbolically on a small chhota pratima / metal idol) with this bhāv:
- “Whatever was told in patrika as ‘jal to Shiva’, I am offering this jal to Arihant–Siddha only. May my wrong karmas soften and my samyak darshan, samyak charitra grow.”
- After abhishek, wipe the idol gently and do simple puja (Ashtaprakari or at least jal–chandan–pushpa) if that is your family’s maryādā. ( jainknowledge.com)
---
2. Navkar Mantra + Daan as your “upay”
If temple/abhishek is not possible:
- Fix a number in your mind: e.g. 108 Navkar every day for 11 days / 21 days.
- Sit in a clean place, face a Jina image, and do:
- Navkar Mantra jaap (108 times). - At the end, do a small prarthana in your own words for shanti and right path.
- Add a small daan:
- Give food, medicines, or basic need items to the poor, animals, or to a Jain upāshray/gaushala as per your capacity. - Do it with this bhāv: “This I am doing as a Jain remedy instead of offering jal to any dev other than Arihant–Siddha. May it reduce my paap karmas and increase daya–samata.” ( jainknowledge.com)
---
3. Clear view on patrika / astrology (Jain standpoint)
- Jain dharma gives importance to karma and puruṣārth, not to planets deciding our fate. ( jainknowledge.com)
- So, even if patrika suggests some upay, as a Jain you can:
---
4. Simple ready‑to‑use Jain alternative (you can follow this)
If someone says: “Your patrika says you must offer jal to Shiva,” you can gently do this instead:
- Morning, after snān, wear clean clothes.
- Go to derasar / home mandir.
- Do:
- 3 times Navkar - Jal abhishek to Jina idol (or only on the right toe, as in Snatra Puja) ( jainknowledge.com) - Logassa or any short stuti (if you know).
- Pray:
- “I do not believe in non‑Jain dev‑pooja. With this Jina‑abhishek, may my past ashubha karma become light, and may I get strength to follow ahimsā, satya, brahmacharya, aparigraha.”
This keeps you 100% within Jain maryādā, fulfills the general “jal‑upay” idea, and supports your true spiritual progress.
