By chanting navkar Mantra thrice and saying I pledge is it considered a pachkhan
In Jain Dharma, simply chanting the Navkar Mantra three times and saying “I pledge” is generally not considered a full pachkhan by itself.
A pachkhan usually means a formal vow/renunciation that includes:
- a clear intention,
- a specific restraint or promise,
- often a time period,
- and in many traditions, the vow is taken in an accepted traditional form.
So:
- Navkar Mantra chanting = auspicious devotion and purification.
- “I pledge” = a simple resolve or sankalp.
- Pachkhan = a more formal Jain vow of restraint.
If the pledge is very general, it is usually not a complete pachkhan. If it is a properly defined vow, taken with sincere intention, it may be considered a simple sankalp, but not necessarily the traditional pachkhan form.
In short: It is devotion and resolve, but not usually a formal pachkhan unless it is taken with proper Jain vow format.
