What if I break it
If you break a vow or commit a fault in Jain Dharma, do not be disheartened.
In Jainism, the proper response is:
- Recognize the mistake
- Feel sincere repentance
- Do Pratikraman with pure heart
- Resolve not to repeat it
- Return to the path of Ahimsa, Satya, and self-restraint
For a layperson, if a vrata is broken, the fault should be confessed internally and purified through pratikraman, kshamapana, and renewed observance. For a monk or nun, a broken discipline is taken with even greater seriousness, and confession to the proper authority is part of purification.
The main spirit of Jainism is not despair, but awareness, repentance, and सुधार / purification of conduct.
If you want, I can explain this specifically for a vrata, austerity, or a daily Jain rule.
