How to get rid of nikachit karma
In Jain Dharma, nikāchit karma is karma whose fruition has become fixed. Such karma cannot be “erased” instantly once it has become destined to rise.
What can be done is:
- Accept it with samatā
Stay balanced, without hatred, fear, or complaint.
- Do pratikraman and kshamā-bhāva
Repent for past causes and cultivate forgiveness.
- Do tapa and dhyān
Penance, meditation, and spiritual discipline help shed old karma and weaken new bondage.
- Stop new bondage
Follow ahiṃsā, satya, asteya, brahmacharya, aparigraha and live with restraint.
- Increase right faith, right knowledge, and right conduct
This is the true Jain way to reduce karmic burden.
So, the correct Jain understanding is:
- Nikāchit karma cannot be avoided once fixed.
- But you can bear it with equanimity, reduce further bondage, and purify the soul through dharma.
In simple words: You do not “remove” nikāchit karma by force; you endure it with equanimity and burn karma through penance, restraint, and pure conduct.
