By chanting navkar Mantra thrice and say I pledge is it considered a pachkhan
In Jain practice, simply chanting the Navkar Mantra three times and saying “I pledge” is usually not considered a complete pachkhan by itself.
A pachkhan / pratyakhyan generally means:
- a clear vow
- for a specific thing you will avoid or do
- for a specific time period
- taken with full intention and awareness
So if you only say a general “I pledge,” it is more like a sankalp or personal resolve, not a full pachkhan.
If you want it to count as pachkhan, it should be stated clearly, for example:
- what you are giving up
- for how long
- with firm inner commitment
Different Jain traditions may have different forms, but the main principle is the same: a pachkhan must be explicit and intentional.
If you want, I can give you a simple proper pachkhan format in Jain style.
