Why do jain sadhus wear only white coloures clothes and not any other colors
In Jain tradition, Śvetāmbara sadhus and sadhvis wear white clothes because white represents:
- Purity
- Simplicity
- Non-attachment
- Peaceful and restrained conduct
- Equality and absence of decoration
White is considered the most suitable color for a renunciant because it does not promote attraction, pride, or sense of luxury. It supports the spirit of ahimsa, aparigraha, and vairagya.
Also, in Digambara tradition, monks do not wear clothes at all, because complete renunciation is followed in that path.
So, the reason is not merely fashion or custom, but a spiritual symbol of detachment and purity in Jain Dharma.
