When does a sadhu get strong intuitive powers?
In Jain Dharma, a sadhu gets extra-intuitive or higher perceptive powers only when the obscuring karmas of knowledge become greatly weakened or destroyed through right conduct, deep austerity, meditation, and purity of soul.
In simple words:
- Not by desire alone
- Not by external practice only
- But by karmic purification
These powers may arise as:
- Avadhi Jnana — direct perception of subtle material objects beyond ordinary senses
- Manahparyaya Jnana — knowledge of the thoughts of other beings, in limited form
Such powers appear according to the soul’s spiritual development stages (gunasthanas) and the rise, suppression, or destruction of knowledge-obscuring karma.
So, a sadhu gets strong intuitive powers when his inner purification becomes high enough and the relevant karmas are weakened or destroyed.
If you mean a specific power like avadhi jnana or manahparyaya jnana, I can explain that distinction clearly in Jain terms.
