Why do jain monks fight within themselves
Jain monks do not fight in the usual sense. What they experience is inner struggle against the kashayas — anger, pride, deceit, and greed — and against attachment to the body and senses.
In Jain Dharma, this inner battle is part of sādhana:
- to control the mind,
- to practice ahimsa,
- to remain detached,
- to destroy karmas,
- and to move toward moksha.
So if it seems like monks “fight within themselves,” it means they are controlling their inner passions and weaknesses, not fighting other people.
This is the true spiritual struggle in Jain life.
