On pornography, self gratification, masturbation, breaking of pachkhan several times

    5 months ago 68

In Jain Dharma, pornography, self-gratification, and masturbation are generally seen as unwholesome because they increase attachment, passion, and lust. These passions intensify raaga-dwesh and strengthen bondage of karma.

    Jain view in simple words

    • Pornography feeds kashaya like lust, greed, and delusion.
    • Self-gratification / masturbation is considered a form of indulgence in sense-pleasure.
    • It does not help in samyak charitra and weakens restraint.
    • It especially affects brahmacharya, which is highly valued in Jain conduct.

    About breaking pachkhan several times

If a person repeatedly takes pachkhan and then breaks it, it should be understood seriously, but with self-awareness and repentance, not despair.

    Jain approach is:

    1. Recognize the fault honestly
    2. Do pratikraman / alochana
    3. Repent with true humility
    4. Reduce the cause, not just regret the act
    5. Take smaller, realistic resolutions that you can actually follow

    Important Jain principle

In Jainism, the main danger is not only the outer act, but the inner intention, attachment, and lack of restraint. Repeated breaking of vows shows that the resolution may be stronger than the current discipline. Then one should make the vow more practical and gradual.

What to do in Jain way

    • Avoid triggers and bad company
    • Reduce idle time
    • Increase swadhyay, pratikraman, jap, and samayik
    • Keep the mind occupied in pure activities
    • Take a vow only if you are prepared to observe it sincerely
    • If you fail, confess, repent, and restart

    Final Jain guidance

Do not become hopeless. In Jainism, purification is through awareness, repentance, restraint, and steady effort. Repeated mistakes should lead to stronger vigilance, not self-hatred. The goal is to gradually move toward brahmacharya and inner purity.
