It is said that walking on grass is as good as walking on pregnant women
In Jainism, the principle is ahimsa—do not harm any living being, whether a human, animal, insect, plant, or even subtle life forms.
But the statement “walking on grass is as good as walking on pregnant women” is not a Jain teaching.
A correct Jain understanding is:
- Grass and plants are also living beings and should be avoided from unnecessary harm.
- Pregnant women are human beings and must be treated with utmost care, compassion, and respect.
- Jainism never equates harming a pregnant woman with walking on grass.
- Such a comparison is morally wrong and offensive.
So, from a Jain viewpoint:
- Harming a pregnant woman is a grave हिंसा.
- Stepping on grass is also not ideal if avoidable, because it harms living beings.
- But they are not equal in moral gravity.
Jain dharma teaches carefulness, compassion, and non-violence toward all jivas, while also recognizing the different levels of harm.
