how can i learn name of the tirthankar and thier symbol/lanchhan

    5 months ago 151

A simple way to learn the 24 Tirthankars and their lanchhans (symbols) is to study them in order and use repetition.

    Easy method

    1. Learn the names in sequence from 1 to 24.
    2. Learn one symbol with each name.
    3. Revise daily by writing them again and again.
    4. Use flashcards: one side name, other side lanchhan.
    5. Group them by pattern so they are easier to remember.

    24 Tirthankars and their symbols

    1. Rishabhdev — Bull
    2. Ajitnath — Elephant
    3. Sambhavnath — Horse
    4. Abhinandan Swami — Monkey
    5. Sumatinath — Goose
    6. Padmaprabhu — Lotus

    20. Munisuvrat Swami — Tortoise
    21. Naminath — Blue lotus
    22. Neminath — Conch shell
    23. Parshvanath — Serpent
    24. Mahavir Swami — Lion

    Helpful memory trick

You can remember some famous pairs first:
    • Rishabhdev – Bull
    • Parshvanath – Snake
    • Mahavir – Lion
    • Chandraprabhu – Moon
    • Padmaprabhu – Lotus
    • Neminath – Conch

    Best way to memorize

    Write this list 5 times:
    • Name
    • Number
    • Symbol

    Example:

    • 1. Rishabhdev — Bull
    • 2. Ajitnath — Elephant
    • 3. Sambhavnath — Horse

If you want, I can also make this into a very easy mnemonic chart in English or Hindi for faster memorization.
