8 lessons in samayak
In Jain Dharma, Samayik is the practice of equanimity and आत्म-चिंतन. It is not always formally taught as exactly “8 lessons,” but the eight main disciplines commonly understood in Samayik are:
- Samata (Equanimity) – keeping the mind calm and balanced.
- Ahimsa – avoiding violence in thought, speech, and action.
- Satya – speaking and thinking truthfully.
- Maun / controlled speech – limiting unnecessary talking.
- Self-awareness – staying aware of the soul and inner state.
- Renunciation of worldly attachment – reducing desire and possession in that period.
- Scriptural remembrance / Navkar Mantra – focusing on sacred Jain prayer and right contemplation.
- Kshama (Forgiveness) – removing anger, pride, deceit, and greed.
