    Jain Aacharya chart

    10 months ago 150

In Jainism, an Acharya (also spelled "Aacharya") is a spiritual leader and head of the Jain monastic community. The Acharya is responsible for the spiritual guidance of monks, nuns, and lay followers, and also for maintaining the code of conduct and discipline within the order.

A Jain Acharya Chart typically refers to a genealogical or hierarchical listing of Acharyas in a particular sect (Shwetambar or Digambar). Each sect, and sometimes sub-sects (gacchas, sanghs), maintain a list of their line of Acharyas, tracing their spiritual lineage (Guru-shishya parampara).

Below is a simplified example of what a Jain Acharya chart may look like for both major sects:

    ---

Shwetambar Jain Acharya Lineage (Example: Tapagaccha)

    1. Acharya Shri Vajraswami

    ↓

    1. Acharya Shri Udyotansuri

    ↓

    1. Acharya Shri Jinchandrasuri

    ↓

    1. Acharya Shri Hemchandracharya

    ↓

    1. ... (continues to present Acharyas, such as Acharya Shri Vijay Nityanand Suri)

    ---

Digambar Jain Acharya Lineage (Example: Mula Sangh)

    1. Acharya Shri Bhadrabahu Swami

    ↓

    1. Acharya Shri Vishakha

    ↓

    1. Acharya Shri Kundakunda

    ↓

    1. Acharya Shri Samantabhadra

    ↓

    1. ... (continues to present Acharyas, such as Acharya Shri Vidyasagar Ji Maharaj)

    ---

    Structure of Jain Monastic Leadership

    • Acharya: Head of the monastic order, spiritual leader.
    • Upadhyaya: Teacher of scriptures.
    • Sadhu / Sadhvi: Monks and nuns.
    • Shravak / Shravika: Laymen and laywomen.

    ---

    Note:

    • Each Jain sect and sub-sect maintains its own detailed Acharya chart.
    • For a specific, up-to-date chart, you may refer to official publications or websites of respective Jain sects or organizations.

If you have a particular sect or lineage in mind, please specify for a more detailed chart.
