How many jain communities are there in india
There is no single fixed official number of Jain communities in India, because Jain society is divided in different ways:
- By sect: mainly Digambar and Shwetambar
- By regional/merchant communities: such as Oswal, Porwal, Shrimali, Khandelwal, Agarwal, and others
- By sub-groups and gacchas within traditions
So, if you mean major Jain community groups, there are many dozens across India. If you mean main Jain sects, there are 2 primary sects: Digambar and Shwetambar.
