Tirthankars had kids but still attained Moksh
In Jain Dharma, yes — many Tirthankars had family life, including children, before renouncing the world and attaining Keval Gyan and then Moksh.
Why this is not a contradiction in Jainism
Having children is not a blockage to Moksh by itself. In Jain philosophy, bondage comes from karma, not from the mere external status of being a householder, parent, king, or renunciant.A Tirthankar:
- is born with extremely pure and lofty karmic conditions,
- lives as a Grihastha in worldly life for some time,
- then takes diksha,
- destroys all ghati karmas through severe penance and perfect discipline,
- attains Keval Gyan,
- and finally Moksh.
Important point
A Tirthankar’s worldly life is seen as part of their past karmic destiny, not as attachment in the ordinary sense. They do not live like common householders driven by passion or possessiveness.Jain understanding
So the message is:- Family life does not automatically prevent liberation
- Attachment and karma do
- Moksh is achieved through right faith, right knowledge, right conduct, and complete karmic destruction
In short
A Tirthankar may have had children in the worldly phase of life, but after total renunciation and destruction of karmas, they attained Moksh. This is fully accepted in Jain Dharma. If you want, I can also explain this with examples of specific Tirthankars.
