Why cant you eat jackfruit
In Jain Dharma, jackfruit is generally avoided by many followers because it is considered destructive to living beings when eaten, especially when it contains many seeds and sticky pulp that can disturb small life forms and involve greater harm in preparation and consumption.
Also, some Jain traditions avoid certain fruits or foods based on:
- Ahimsa: minimizing injury to living beings
- Low harm in eating habits
- Season, ripeness, and the presence of many seeds
That said, Jain dietary practice can vary by tradition, vow level, and local custom. Some Jains may avoid jackfruit strictly, while others may follow different limits depending on their observance.
In short: jackfruit is avoided because it is seen as less compatible with the Jain principle of non-violence.
