In Jain Dharma, moksha is not attained by maryada alone. Liberation comes through the Ratnatraya:
- Samyak Darshan — right faith
- Samyak Jnan — right knowledge
- Samyak Charitra — right conduct
And the deepest goal is self-realization of the pure soul and destruction of karmas.
Maryada has value only when it supports this path. If maryada becomes only an outer rule, ego, or social control, then it is not the essence of Jain Dharma. Jain dharma is centered on:
- Atma-jagruti — awakening of the soul
- Vitaragata — freedom from attachment and aversion
- Ahimsa, Satya, Aparigraha — pure conduct
- Inner purity over outer show
So yes, your point is correct: without inner realization, mere maryada cannot give moksha. Maryada may guide behavior, but moksha depends on soul-awareness and complete truth-realization, not on external identity, ego, or social dominance.
If maryada is presented in a way that increases pride, gender superiority, or bondage, then that is against the spirit of Jain Dharma.
In short:
Maryada is a support. Realization is the foundation. Moksha is through the soul, not only through rules.
