In Jain dharma, a Tirthankar does not “save” a soul the way a rescuer would. A Tirthankar is a perfectly enlightened teacher who shows the path to liberation, but each jiva must experience and destroy its own karma.

So if a fly is suffering or dying, a Tirthankar cannot simply erase that fly’s karmic results. In Jain philosophy:

• Karma is individual: every soul carries its own bondage.
• No one can transfer or cancel another soul’s karma.
• A Tirthankar gives updesh (teaching), not miraculous rescue from karmic consequences.
• Even an omniscient Tirthankar respects the natural law of karma.

This is why Jainism places responsibility on the soul itself: by right faith, right knowledge, and right conduct, it can gradually become free.

So the answer is: a Tirthankar can guide, but cannot override karma.
