is stree abhishek allowed? why?
In Jainism, stree abhishek is not universally forbidden. It depends on the tradition, temple maryada, and local rule.
Simple answer
- Spiritual point of view: A woman can certainly have bhakti, shraddha, and purity of bhav. Jain dharma does not deny devotion by gender.
- Practical ritual point of view: Some Digambar temples may restrict women from certain forms of abhishek or puja due to traditional temple discipline, maryada, and sect-specific customs.
- In many Shwetambar traditions, women commonly participate in puja, bhakti, and related rituals according to temple practice.
Why such differences?
Jain rituals are not only about intention; they also follow:- sampradayik maryada
- temple customs
- rules of purity and discipline
- sect traditions
So the main reason is tradition and temple rule, not a denial of women’s spiritual worth.
