5 types of indryas
In Jainism, the concept of indriyas refers to the sense organs or faculties through which a living being perceives the world. There are five types of indriyas (sense organs):
- Sparshanendriya (Touch sense)
- The organ of touch (skin).
- Rasanendriya (Taste sense)
- The organ of taste (tongue).
- Ghranendriya (Smell sense)
- The organ of smell (nose).
- Chakshurindriya (Sight sense)
- The organ of sight (eyes).
- Shravanendriya (Hearing sense)
- The organ of hearing (ears).
According to Jain philosophy, living beings (jivas) are classified based on the number of senses they possess, ranging from one-sensed beings (only touch) to five-sensed beings (having all five senses).
