Why do we do puja
In Jain Dharma, we do puja to honor the qualities of the Tirthankars and to remind ourselves to follow the path of right faith, right knowledge, and right conduct.
Main purposes of puja are:
- Bhakti: to show reverence and devotion toward the Arihants and Siddhas.
- Smaran: to remember the ideals of non-violence, detachment, and purity.
- Atma-shuddhi: to purify our own mind, speech, and actions.
- Vinay: to develop humility and respect.
- Prerna: to inspire ourselves toward liberation through Jain values.
In Jainism, puja is not done to please God for favors. It is done to transform the self, reduce inner passions, and move toward the path of moksha.
Simply put: we do puja to purify our soul and stay connected with the ideals of Jain Dharma.
