Why does everyone focus on diksha. One can become a shravak also and do good deeds. Make schools. Organize chaturmas navvanu. Make good abhushan of gods. Why dies evrybody aim for diksha. Cant you do more deeds by staying here as you have the power to do.
In Śwetāmbara Jain tradition, dīkshā is highly revered because it is the direct path of complete renunciation, sanyam, and moksha. But that does not mean every soul must or can take dīkshā.
A śrāvak/śrāvikā also has a very important and respected place in Jain dharma.
Why do many people focus on dīkshā?
Because dīkshā is considered the highest external spiritual discipline:- no possession
- no family attachment
- no business or worldly responsibilities
- full dedication to ahimsa, tapas, and self-realization
So, from a moksha point of view, dīkshā is seen as the most direct and powerful way.
But can a śrāvak do good deeds?
Yes, absolutely. A śrāvak can do many meritorious and dharmic works, such as:- making schools
- organizing chaturmās
- arranging navvanu
- temple seva
- making and decorating bhagwān ji’s abhushan
- charity
- supporting scriptures, temples, sadhus, and sadhvis
- protecting the Jain community and dharma
These are all good deeds and have value in Jain life.
Then why not stay गृहस्थ and do more work?
Because in Jainism, more worldly power does not always mean more spiritual progress.A householder may do many good deeds, but still remains connected to:
- possession
- pride
- attachment
- responsibility
- social identity
Dīkshā is chosen by those who feel:
- “I want to reduce all bondage”
- “I want to focus only on the soul”
- “I am ready for total renunciation”
So it is not about doing “more” work outside. It is about reducing karmic bondage more deeply.
Jain view in balance
Jain dharma values both:- Śrāvak dharma — for disciplined worldly life with charity, seva, and restraint
- Muni/āryikā dharma — for complete renunciation
Both are noble, but their roles are different.
Simple answer
A śrāvak can do great good and support dharma in many ways. But dīkshā is considered higher because it aims at complete liberation, not just good deeds. So in Śwetāmbara view:
- Not everyone should take dīkshā
- Not everyone is fit for dīkshā
- Śrāvak dharma is also highly respected
- Dīkshā is the highest path for those who are truly ready
If you want, I can also explain this in very simple Gujarati/Hindi style.
