Answer in detail How many times can a jeev get upsham, kshayopshamik and kshayik samyaktva in 1. One birth 2. Entire bhav bhraman

In Jain darshan, samyaktva is counted by the type of karma-condition, so the answer is different for each one.

    Short answer

    | Type of samyaktva | In 1 birth | In entire bhav-bhraman | |---|---:|---:| | Upasham samyaktva | Multiple times | Multiple / innumerable times | | Kshayopashamik samyaktva | Multiple times | Multiple / innumerable times | | Kshayik samyaktva | At most once | At most once |

    ---

    1) Upasham samyaktva

    • This arises when darshan-mohaniya karma is suppressed.
    • Since it is based on suppression, it is temporary.
    • If the supporting karma-condition changes, it can be lost.
    • Therefore, a jiva can attain it more than once in the same birth if the right causes arise again.
    • In the entire cycle of births, it can happen many times.

    Simple meaning:

Temporary right faith can return again and again.

    ---

    2) Kshayopashamik samyaktva

    • This arises when there is partial destruction + partial suppression of karma.
    • It is also not permanent in the same way as kshayik samyaktva.
    • So a jiva can attain it many times in one birth, and many times across bhav-bhraman.

    Simple meaning:

Mixed right faith can be gained, lost, and gained again.

    ---

    3) Kshayik samyaktva

    • This arises when darshan-mohaniya karma is completely destroyed.
    • Once this is attained, it does not revert back to mithyatva.
    • So it is not something a jiva gets again and again.

    Therefore:

    • In one birth, it can happen only once.
    • In entire bhav-bhraman, it is also only once.
    • After that, the soul either:
    1. continues on the path toward keval jnan, and then moksha, or 2. if already in that final path, does not fall back.

    ---

    Very important subtle point

When we say “at most once” for kshayik samyaktva, we mean:
    • A soul does not lose it and regain it repeatedly.
    • Once attained, it remains forever.
    • So across all births, it is one final attainment.

    ---

    Easiest way to remember

    • Upasham = temporary suppression → can happen many times
    • Kshayopashamik = partial destruction + suppression → can happen many times
    • Kshayik = complete destruction → happens only once, permanently

    ---

    Final conclusion

    In one birth:

    • Upasham samyaktva: many times
    • Kshayopashamik samyaktva: many times
    • Kshayik samyaktva: once only

    In entire bhav-bhraman:

    • Upasham samyaktva: many times
    • Kshayopashamik samyaktva: many times
    • Kshayik samyaktva: once only

If you want, I can also give this answer in Gujarati/Hindi or explain it with the 7 tattva and 14 gunasthan.
