Why recite namokaar mantra nine times
Reciting the Namokār Mantra nine times is a common devotional and spiritual practice in Jain Dharma.
Its purpose is to:
- Strengthen concentration on the qualities of the Arihants, Siddhas, Acharyas, Upadhyayas, and Sadhus.
- Increase inner purity by repeatedly bowing the mind in humility.
- Reduce negative thoughts and cultivate peace, reverence, and right भावना.
- Develop discipline in daily worship and meditation.
- Create auspiciousness through repeated remembrance of the five supreme beings.
The number nine is often used as a complete and respectful count in many Jain prayers and rituals, helping the mind stay steady and focused. But the real benefit is not in the number alone — it is in the faith, awareness, and devotion with which the mantra is recited.
In Jain tradition, even one sincere recitation with pure भावना has great value. Nine recitations simply help make the practice more regular and meaningful.
