Mahavir swami all relatives with place and dynasty

    4 months ago 91

Here is the commonly accepted Jain account of Bhagwan Mahavir Swami’s immediate family and royal background, with place and dynasty/clan:

    1) Father

    • Name: King Siddhartha
    • Place: Kundagrama / Kundapura near Vaishali in Mithila/Vajji region
    • Dynasty: Ikshvaku dynasty
    • He was the ruler of the Kshatriya royal family of Kundagrama.

    2) Mother

    • Name: Queen Trishala
    • Place: Vaishali
    • Dynasty / Clan: Licchavi clan
    • She belonged to the Vajji/Licchavi royal line.

    3) Elder brother

    • Name: Nandivardhan
    • Place: Kundagrama
    • Dynasty: Ikshvaku dynasty
    • He succeeded in managing the family and royal responsibilities after Mahavir left गृहस्थ जीवन.

    4) Sister

    • Name: Sudarshana
    • Place: Kundagrama
    • Dynasty: Ikshvaku dynasty

    5) Wife / marriage tradition

There is a difference between Jain traditions:
    • Shwetambar tradition: Mahavir Swami was married to Yashoda
    • Digambar tradition: Mahavir Swami remained brahmachari and was not married

    If marriage is mentioned:

    • Yashoda
    • Place: often associated with Vaishali / nearby royal region
    • Dynasty: generally described as a Kshatriya royal family

    6) Daughter

    • Name: Priyadarshana / Anojja
    • Tradition: mentioned mainly in Shwetambar accounts
    • Place: associated with the same royal family background
    • Dynasty: Kshatriya royal line

    7) Brother-in-law

    • In some accounts, Jamali is mentioned as Mahavir’s son-in-law / related through family traditions, but this is not uniform across Jain traditions.

    Important note

The exact list of relatives varies somewhat between Digambar and Shwetambar traditions. The most certain and universally accepted details are:
    • Father: Siddhartha
    • Mother: Trishala
    • Brother: Nandivardhan
    • Royal lineage: Ikshvaku dynasty
    • Maternal lineage: Licchavi clan

If you want, I can also give this in a table format with relation / name / place / dynasty.
