In Jain Dharma, brahmacharya means control of sensual desire and purity in conduct. For a householder, it usually means restraint and fidelity, while for a muni/sadhvi it means complete celibacy.

So, being gay by itself is not what determines brahmacharya. The Jain view is focused on:

• self-control
• non-indulgence in lust
• faithfulness and restraint
• non-attachment

If a man is gay and wants to follow brahmacharya, then:

• as a householder, he should live with discipline, restraint, and vow-based conduct according to his level,
• as a monk, he must observe complete celibacy, just as with anyone else.

So the answer is: not necessarily “because he is gay,” but because brahmacharya requires restraint, and complete celibacy is required only for those who take the monastic vow.

In Jain Dharma, the emphasis is on right conduct and control of passions, not on judging a person by orientation.
