I accidentally killed a spider. What should I do?
In Jain Dharma, the first step is true repentance.
You should:
- Realize and regret the हिंसा
Feel sincere remorse that a living being was harmed.
- Do pratikraman or a short prayer of repentance
Ask forgiveness from the soul you harmed, with humility.
- Take a firm vow of greater सावधानी
Be more careful in the future to avoid harming even small जीव.
- Practice ahimsa in daily life
Avoid unnecessary killing of insects or spiders, and gently move them away when possible.
- Stay calm, not guilty
In Jainism, repentance with right intention is important. Do not fall into despair; instead, purify the mind and improve conduct.
A simple inner prayer can be:
“Michhami Dukkadam” Meaning: If I have caused harm, I seek forgiveness.
If you want, I can also give you a short Jain repentance prayer for such situations.
