I am horrible at JAIN practices. how can I fade into perfect ahimsa

    4 months ago 59

In Jain Dharma, perfect ahimsa is not reached by sudden force. It is cultivated step by step through awareness, restraint, and compassion toward all जीव.

You are not “horrible”; you are practicing. That is already the path.

    Begin with these steps:

    1. Reduce harm in thought, speech, and action

    - Speak gently. - Avoid anger, harshness, and contempt. - Be mindful before acting.

    1. Practice greater care in daily life

    - Walk, sit, eat, and use water carefully. - Avoid unnecessary violence to even small living beings. - Be attentive, not careless.

    1. Choose simple living

    - Reduce greed, waste, and excess possession. - Less attachment brings less harm.

    1. Observe self-control

    - Keep your senses disciplined. - Avoid impulsive reactions. - Pause before anger or judgment.

    1. Do pratikraman and repentance

    - Reflect on mistakes daily. - Ask forgiveness for any harm caused knowingly or unknowingly. - Resolve to improve.

    1. Cultivate compassion

    - See all जीव as deserving of safety. - Wish well for all beings, not only humans.

    1. Follow vows according to capacity

    - Start with what you can sincerely observe. - Truth, non-violence, non-stealing, celibacy, and non-possession are practiced gradually.

    Most important understanding

Perfect ahimsa is the state of a purified soul. For most of us, the path is not perfection instantly, but less violence each day and more awareness each day.

A simple inner prayer: “May I harm less. May I remain alert. May I move closer to ahimsa.”

If you live with sincerity, humility, and repentance, you are already moving toward Jain dharma.
