how do I pray in JAIN dharma?

    4 months ago 73

In Jain dharma, prayer is done as vandana, stavan, and dhyan with shuddha bhav (pure inner feeling), not for asking worldly favors.

A simple way to pray in Jain dharma:

    1. Be clean and शांत

    - Sit in a peaceful place. - Keep the mind calm and respectful.

    1. Bow with humility

    - Fold hands and remember the Tirthankars, Arihants, Siddhas, and Sadhu-Sadhvi.

    1. Chant the Navkar Mantra

    - This is the most important Jain prayer. - It expresses respect to the five supreme beings: - Arihant - Siddha - Acharya - Upadhyay - Sadhu

    1. Do stavan or bhakti

    - Sing or recite devotional hymns in praise of the Tirthankars. - Keep the feeling of reverence, not demand.

    1. Reflect on your faults

    - Ask forgiveness for wrong thoughts, words, and actions. - Resolve to reduce anger, ego, deceit, and greed.

    1. Practice samayik or pratikraman

    - These are powerful Jain practices of self-purification. - They are also forms of prayer through inner discipline.

    Important Jain understanding

In Jain dharma, prayer is mainly for:
    • purification of the soul,
    • remembrance of virtues,
    • reduction of karma,
    • and progress on the path of ahimsa, truth, non-attachment, and self-control.

It is not about asking God to change fate, because in Jain philosophy, liberation comes through right faith, right knowledge, and right conduct.

    Very simple daily prayer

    You may begin like this:
    • “I bow to the Arihants.”
    • “I bow to the Siddhas.”
    • “May my thoughts be pure.”
    • “May I live in ahimsa.”
    • “Please forgive my mistakes.”

If you want, I can also give you:

    • a daily Jain prayer routine,
    • the Navkar Mantra with meaning,
    • or a short morning prayer in Gujarati/Hindi/English.
