If someone threatens Mt family should I a devout jain just sit quite and take it or defend myself by killing them
In Jain Dharma, killing is not the right answer.
A devout Jain should follow ahimsa as far as possible, so the ideal response is to protect life without hatred or desire to harm. If someone threatens you or your family, you should first try to:
- escape or move to safety
- call for help
- use nonviolent protection
- block, restrain, or delay only as much as necessary to prevent immediate harm
Jain ethics does not support killing out of anger, revenge, or fear. Even when protection is needed, the mind should remain free from malice, and the force used should be minimum and only for defense, not for punishment.
So the Jain answer is: do not sit silently if life is in danger, but also do not kill. Protect yourself and your family with the least हिंसा possible.
