Can jain people self harm themselves
In Jain Dharma, self-harm is not approved.
Jainism teaches ahimsa toward all living beings, including oneself. The body is a means for practicing dharma, so intentionally injuring oneself, harming oneself, or ending one’s life is considered against Jain principles.
If someone is in pain, distress, or thinking of self-harm, Jain teaching would encourage:
- patience and self-restraint
- prayer, repentance, and reflection
- seeking support from family, monks, nuns, or trusted elders
- protecting life with compassion
If you mean this in a spiritual context, Jainism emphasizes non-violence, self-control, and preserving life rather than self-destruction.
