Can we eat agave
In Jain Dharma, agave syrup or agave nectar is generally considered acceptable by many Jains if it is purely plant-based and does not involve any animal ingredients or harmful processing.
But eating the agave plant itself is usually not preferred, because it involves harming and consuming the plant body.
Simple rule:
- Agave syrup / nectar: usually acceptable for many Jains
- Agave plant flesh: generally not preferred
- If your tradition is very strict: follow your guru / family tradition / sect guidance
If you want, I can also tell you whether agave is considered suitable in Digambar or Shwetambar practice.
