Is it better to have dirty hands after going to the bathroom after dark or to wash them?
From a Jain perspective, wash them.
Cleanliness supports sūchitā and good conduct, and after using the bathroom you should keep the body and surroundings clean. If there is no water available immediately after dark, you should wash as soon as possible at the first proper opportunity.
So the better practice is:
- do not keep dirty hands
- wash with water and remain clean
- maintain hygiene without harming living beings
In Jain dharma, cleanliness and carefulness are part of disciplined living.
