What should we do first, control our anger or stop eating Onions
In Jain Dharma, first priority is to control anger.
Why:
- Krodh (anger) is a kashaya that directly binds karma and hurts the soul.
- Onion is avoided in Jain diet because it is considered harmful for spiritual purity and involves more violence in food practice.
- But inner defects like anger, ego, deceit, and greed are deeper obstacles than dietary restraint alone.
So the order is:
- Reduce anger and other passions
- Follow pure Jain food discipline, including avoiding onion
Both are important, but self-control of the mind is the stronger first step in Jain sadhana.
